Passed away peacefully in her 98th year with her children at her side at Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. Born in St. Thomas on January 21, 1916 to Anna and Roy Arnold, Maxine was one of three girls. She is predeceased by sister Ruth Laing, sister Mary Arnold, and husband Ralph G. Allen. Maxine and Ralph were married in Dartmouth, NS in 1943. After Ralph’s service in the Navy, the couple returned to live in St. Thomas and later Sarnia in the 1950’s. Maxine is survived by her daughter Mary Margaret; son Edward, his wife Louise; grandchildren Lindsay Roberts, Sara Krawetz and Michael Allen; and great grandchildren Oliver, Taylor, Hazlyn and Tommy. Art was her passion. She was well-known locally for her watercolour landscapes of Northern Ontario. In both her 79th and 80th years, Maxine was thrilled to be part of the juried McMichael Gallery fall art show. Maxine was a life-time member of Pro Patria IODE and the Sarnia General Hospital Auxiliary. The family extends blessings to the many kind private care workers who made it possible for Maxine to stay at home for so many years. Special thanks more recently to the staff at Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home. Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 6, 2013, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with refreshments being served. Interment to follow at Elmdale Cemetery, St. Thomas.
