beverly allen  1ALLEN, Beverly June (née Cook), of St. Thomas and Windsor, passed away peacefully at her home in St Thomas on Friday, December 12th 2014, in her 86th year. Dear wife of the late Glenn George Allen (2013) with whom she shared 55 happy years. Loved sister of the late Vivian Wates (2008) and the late Thesta Cook (1991). Best friend for over 60 years of Nancy Byers of Oil Springs. Sister-in-law of Joan Johnson of Michigan and her family and Donald Allen of Espanola and his family. Special Aunt to John Wates (Theresa) of London and his family. Beverly was born in St. Thomas, ON, February 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Russell and Fonda (née Frazer) Cook. She was a long-time member of Central United Church, Windsor and an adherent of Grace United Church, St. Thomas. Beverly was a music lover and sang for many years in church choirs in St. Thomas, Petrolia, and Toronto, as well as the UWO Choir, London when a student. She was a long-time Sunday School teacher and leader of C.G.I.T. groups. A graduate of UWO and of the Ontario College of Education, Toronto, Beverly was a secondary school teacher for 36 years. She taught at the Petrolia District High School and the Honourable J. C. Patterson Collegiate Institute, Windsor, where she completed her career as head librarian. Heartfelt thanks from the family are extended to Debra and the entire team at “Nurse Next Door” for the superb care and support they provided to Beverly that allowed her to remain in her home. Relatives and friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the funeral at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where the funeral service will be held on Friday December 19th at 2:00 p.m. Interment in St. Thomas Cemetery, West Avenue. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Elgin-St. Thomas gratefully acknowledged.
