Alfieri, Mary canobitsALFIERI  Mary (nee Antonio)- Our beloved mother passed peacefully at Queenston Place Retirement Home on Thursday, September 19th 2013 at the age of 78. Mary was born in Goderich Ontario to Gasperino and Sarah Antonio. The Antonio family relocated to Niagara Falls from Goderich. It was at Antonio’s Fruit and Produce Market in Niagara Falls that she met and then married the love of her life, Sam Alfieri at the age of 20. Sam predeceased her in 1996. Together the two them raised four children and owned and operated the Capri Restaurant for over 55 years. Mary, Sam and Chef Carmen Alfieri delivered unforgettable hospitality to generations. Mary was the face and heart of the Capri and an icon in the Niagara community. Often customers became extended family and many came back time and again for decades. Many loved Mary for her genuine nature, kindness, laugh and outstanding family values. Mary will be sadly missed by her children, Marisa Alfieri Hay and Laurie Hay of Grimsby, Michael and Mary Alfieri, Newmarket, Sam and Marg Alfieri, Waterloo and John and Rose Alfieri of Niagara Falls. Mary had many names throughout her life, Mom Friend, Boss, Aunt Mary, but the one she cherished was Nana. Mary was a dedicated mother to her children, who loved her deeply. She will be lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Sara (Saud), Michael, Rob, Alex, Matthew, William Samantha and Emily. Mary will be missed by so many of her extended family and friends. Mary will be welcomed into heaven by her brothers and sisters, James Antonio, Peter Antonio, Tony Antonio, Gertrude Dagonese, Carmela (Min) Popowich and Nora D’Anna. She will also be greeted at the table by her beloved brother-in-law Chef Carmen and his wife Felicia Alfieri. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Queenston Place for wonderful care and friendship they extended to our mother during her time there.

Mary’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Morse & Son Funeral Home on Sunday September 22nd from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Vigil Prayers will be recited at 2 p.m. A celebration of life and Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of St. Ann on Monday September 23, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.  Rite of Committal will take place at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Kidney Foundation of Canada or Heart and Stroke foundation of Ontario.
