Obituary of BERRY: Arlene of Abbotsford Formerly of Hillsborough

images-4

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Berry on January 23, 2018 in Abbotsford, BC. After a lengthy illness, she passed away peacefully with her loving and devoted husband Al by her side.

Arlene (Hunter) Berry was born April 28, 1941 in Alberta, the daughter of the late Theodore (Ted) and Sarah Hunter. She was raised on their family farm near Edwell, Alberta and always loved sharing stories of life on the farm. Arlene always had a smile for everyone and loved a good game and a good laugh. She was very proud of her many years spent working for the Hudson Bay Company at several locations. Over the years, Arlene lived in many places throughout Alberta and BC , but most of all she treasured her memories of time spent at their winter home in Arizona, where she will be missed by many friends. She was also active in the First Baptist Church of Sun Lakes in Sun Lakes, AZ, and Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, BC.

Arlene was known for her positive attitude, her independence and her willingness to lend a hand. Arlene loved her Edmonton Oilers and was able to be there for many of their biggest moments in the 80’s, and her fiery passion showed most when her team was playing. Arlene loved music and loved to sing and in her last years it was the music that gave us the ability to connect with her. She maintained a happiness that shone through her entire illness.

She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 36 years, Albert (Al) W. Berry who provided such amazing care for her through her final years. She leaves behind a beloved daughter Valerie (Johanson) Lester (Ed) of Red Deer, AB. She loved her five grandchildren dearly and will be missed by Tyler and Sara Lester of Red Deer, AB, as well as Ryan, Jared and William Berry of Hillsborough, NB. She also will be deeply missed by her stepchildren, Kevin Berry (Brenda) of Hillsborough, NB and Kenda Berry (Eric Lavoie) of Saint-Édouard-de-Kent, NB, as well as her sister Loretta (Bunny) Burling (Wayne) of Okotoks, AB, and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Charles (Chuck) Johanson.

There will be no visiting hours or funeral, but celebrations of life will take place with family and friends at later dates. For those who choose to make a memorial in Arlene’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC would be greatly appreciated.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and residents at MSA Manor and several special friends for the care given to Arlene (and to Al). The support and kindness shown was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

Obituary of Mooney: Phyllis Evelyn (nee Wood) of Westgate Lodge, Belleville

MOONEY, Phyllis Evelyn (nee Wood) – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sweet mother/grandmother, Phyllis, on December 3, one day after the death of her son, Bob. Phyllis was in her 98th year, passing away peacefully at Westgate Lodge. Phyllis is predeceased by her husband, Alan, (1994) and son Bob, (2017). She will be profoundly missed by her daughter, Fern Colson (Wilbert). She is deeply loved by her four grandchildren:  Eric Colson (Michelle) Kingston, Shannon Colson (Bill) Golden Lake, Lindsey Pascoe (Jeff) Red Deer, AB., and Andrea Smith (Michel) Ft. McMurray, AB,  and all eight great-grandchildren, Rhett, Nick, Tayler, Brayden, Waylon, Reid, Calleigh and Evey. John Wood,  London, is Phyllis’s only surviving brother, after losing Ritchie several years ago. “Mom/Gram, you’re the sweetest person we all know.  We have all been so blessed to have descended from you, and Dad/Papi too. Your greatest concern has always been for others, even asking caregivers how many more hours they have to work, could you help them, do they have far to drive in the snow, etc., and thanking everyone for absolutely any and everything done for you. You have become  famous for your signature statement, “I’m so lucky”. One of your biggest gifts to all of us has been recognizing this quality of gratefulness that you have, and being reminded to find gratitude under all circumstances. You are a completely self-less person and have been a wonderful role model for all of us. We’re happy you always felt so lucky but in truth, we’ve been the ones who were lucky. And dying one day after Bob, what is that about? You two were close and somehow that comforts us. We all love you. You will be so missed.”

Funeral arrangements for Phyllis and Bob: Visitation will be held at Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, 30 Moira Street West (613-968-2273) on Friday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel at 11am on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Interment Belleville Cemetery.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

She was married to Stockwell Day Sr.for 56 years, raising six children together: Deborah, Stockwell,Nick,Abigail, Rebecca and Matthew.A wide range of successful business and professional pursuits allowed Gwen and Stockwell to experience life in Atlantic Canada,Québec,Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Enjoying wonderful family-centred years owning the Overlander Lodge at Jasper East, near Hinton,Alberta, was there last venture before retiring in British Columbia.Gwen’s passion for volunteering led her to support many nonprofit organizations such as the Red Cross,YMCA, her local church and CESO projects in Hungary and Czechoslavkia.
In Her Own Words: ” At the age of 90 I will record a bit of what I did in these past years… Nothing spectacular… My six children from my very happy 56-year-old marriage to Stockwell Day Sr did it all. My first child,Deborah, owned her spectacular Montessori School for over 20 years in West Edmonton. Deborah taught three generations of children, many of whom now bring their children to a Montessori school system. My second child, Stockwell, went into politics and was pretty spectacular with smart, conservative work. He still goes around helping people, being spectacular with his kindness.
My third child, Nicholas, had a very good career and occupations. He is a spectacular care worker and devotes his life to caring of people. My sixth child,Matthew, has raised four wonderful children and is a very well-known spectacular entertainer in Edmonton. He is a truly unique person. My father,Bertram Gilbert, was a POW in Japan for four years. He died in hospital after returning home in 1946. Obituary of LESOKY: Kenneth Wilfred of Winnipeg Formerly of Stead, MB and Nanaimo, BC

Posted by on July 30, 2017

images-4

Born: Feb 05, 1938
Date of Passing: Jul 26, 2017

“Is that you?”

After a long and valiant battle with ill health but mercifully short final skirmish Ken found peace at Victoria Hospital on July 26, 2017 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 79.

He is survived by his beloved wife Eileen; their children, Kevin (Colette) and Audra (George); his grandchildren, Garett and Shane who were the love and pride of his life; their mother Kim; siblings, Gerry, Louis and Donna (Brian); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Ken was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Agnes (nee Deacon); and countless waterfowl, fish and all manner of forest fauna and flora unlucky enough to fall within his sharp sight. Born on February 5, 1938, Ken if he is to be believed was a true Stead ‘bad boy’ who raised foxes, shifted outhouses, lifted moonshine and flipped cars until he tripped up the aisle with Eileen Vincent in 1964. They moved from Pine Falls, MB to Nanaimo, BC in 1966 where Ken worked in a paper mill for 11 years. He also angled to considerably deplete west coast fish stocks, and raise Five Star Whiskey stock prices, on camping weekends with his family and the lifelong friends he made there.

Moving back to Stead, MB in 1977 to take over Lesosky’s General Store, Ken continued to work as a millwright in Pine Falls until his retirement in 2000. A baseball back catcher, hockey goalie, avid sportsman, ceaseless tinkerer, hearty tippler, merciless jokester, Gull Lake Olympian, and casual collector of mostly useless things Ken lived large until a stroke shrank his life in 2010. After seven years of struggle, and several other cruel health blows Ken had enough and took his leave.

A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, August 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Stead, MB with a reception to follow at Stead Community Centre. Fr. James Gray will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ken’s life, but please note that the church is very small and will likely only accommodate family. An attempt will be made to broadcast the service in the churchyard, however, so please bring lawn chairs and bug spray. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ducks Unlimited Canada to support the fowl families of those Ken blasted from the skies.
