PEDERSEN: Sigrid (nee Ernstsen) of St. Thomas, Ontario, formerly of Port Talbot and Union
PEDERSEN, Sigrid (nee Ernstsen), passed away peacefully at her residence, the Valleyview Home, St. Thomas on Sunday, January 29, 2017, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of 63 years to the late Paul Pedersen (Apr. 22, 2006). Dearly loved mother of Ebba Betts (Ken) of St. Thomas, Roy Pedersen (Dorothy) of Port Stanley, John Pedersen (Amy) of North Plains, Oregon, and the late Grethe Begley. Cherished grandmother of Cheryl, Michael, Dennis, Timothy, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Anna, and great grandmother of Hayley, Jesse, Kiarra, Matthew, Brooke, Ella and Ben. In addition to her husband and daughter, Sigrid was predeceased by six brothers (all in Denmark), as well as a step-grandson, Troy. Born in Nimtofte, Denmark, September 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Jens and Kirstine (nee Andersen) Ernstsen. Sigrid and Paul came to Canada in 1949. They farmed together, residing at Port Talbot from 1956-1990, after which they moved to Union, and then to St. Thomas in 1999. Sigrid had been under the loving and capable care of the staff at the Valleyview Home (CP Place) since 2012. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Thomas and a former member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, London. The funeral and committal service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Wednesday, February 1st at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will be made privately at a later date in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Tyrconnell. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
