Zavitz, Harris webZAVITZ, Dr. Harris G. – Passed away on November 5, 2013 in his 85th year.  He was admitted to the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Monday morning and died peacefully Tuesday evening with his family by his side.  He leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Marjorie, whom he met while teaching in Germany.  They have a close immediate family with daughter Andrea and her husband Chris Gamauf of Toronto, son Kenton and his wife Suzanne Attix and grandchildren Lucy and Oscar of Salt Lake City, Utah.  His family is very sorry and saddened to lose this wonderful husband, father and grandfather.  Harris was born in Lobo Township near Strathroy Ontario to parents Margaret Campbell Zavitz and Gerald Zavitz.  He is preceded in death by his sister Lillian and brothers, Morgan and Donald.  His extended family of nieces and nephews have remained close.  He began his teaching career in the Strathroy area.  Harris and Marjorie came to Niagara Falls in 1960 where Harris was Principal of Orchard Park School, Fallsview School and then Princess Margaret School from where he retired.  He was keenly interested in education, earning a PhD in his field and wholehearted believed that his students should be appreciated, find success and experience the world.  Harris was a very active 58-year member of the Lions Club of Niagara Falls.  He thoroughly enjoyed his association with fellow Lions and their community work.  Harris loved to ski, curl and read.  He and Marjorie travelled the world together throughout their marriage.  Harris enjoyed his home, his garden, and his neighbours.

He embodied gentleness, warmth, honesty, integrity, intelligence and inner calm.

Cremation has taken place.  The visitation will be held at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls on Saturday November 9th from 2 – 4 & 7:30 – 9 p.m.  The Lions Club of Niagara Falls will conduct a service on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. followed by memories shared by family and friends.  If desired, donations can be made to the Lions Club of Niagara Falls or the Greater Niagara General Hospital.
