WALKER, HAROLD

On October 30, 2017, surrounded by his family, Harold ascended to the eternal plowing match above. He is sadly missed by his loving wife Pat and daughter Brenda & partner Jim Duffy, with adoring grandchildren Patrick and Ali. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and bothers-in-law Peggy and husband Larry Payne, Cathy Forbes, Nancy Sharp, Donna and husband John Rice, Bob Sharp and wife Linda, Raymond Howald and partner Val, Bill Howald and wife Lori as well as several nieces and nephews. Harold worked at S&B Construction for many years. He was a member of the Ontario Plowmens’ Association, the Elgin County Plowmens’ Association, and Plains Baptist Church. He and Pat were avid campers at Springwater Conservation Area. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at Plains Baptist Church in Union on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 3:00 pm with a light lunch to follow. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of both St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital and University Hospital in London, and special thanks to Nurse Kim and Crystal Payne for their participation in Harold’s care. PAULINE CORBEIL (née BOURDON) de Saint-André-Avellin, est décédée le vendredi 27 octobre 2017 à l’hôpital de Papineau, Gatineau, à l’âge de 99 ans et 9 mois. Elle était l’épouse de feu Charles Guy Corbeil et la fille de feu Georges Étienne Bourdon et de feu Rose de Lima Sanche dite Lachance. Elle était la mère de Marcel Corbeil d’Ottawa et d’une fille anonyme mort-née. Elle fut prédécédée par ses frères et sœur: Georges Étienne (feu Sylvette Lecompte), Marguerite (feu Gérard Richard) et Lucien (feu Hélène Perron). Lui survivent plusieurs neveux et nièces.

Peacefully at her home on Monday October 30th, 2017 in her 58th year.  Beloved wife of Ken Jenkins.  Loving mother of Tiffany Fulford (James MacLeod) and Lindsay Eales (Fraser).  Dear grandmother of Damien, A.J., Abigail, Skylit, Riley and Dylan.  Sister of Doug Brooks (Murt), Kathy Lander (Jack), Nancy Puffer (Ted), Bev Kerr (Mark), JoAnne Cleary, Susan Darren and Laurie Clark (Joe).  Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Barb Jenkins was a quiet, gentle, and selfless woman who devoted her life to raising her two daughters and her grandchildren. Barbie cherished time with her family, including trips on the train with her loving husband, playing with her grandchildren at the park and lounging by the water with her siblings. She will be greatly missed by all those she knew. May she fly freely now. CHAMBERS, Dorothy Isabelle (nee Faulds) – Age 88, formerly of Corunna, passed away at Lambton Meadowview Villa, Petrolia with her beloved husband Robert Chambers by her side. Loving mother of Linda (Jack) Hutton of Bala, Robert Jr. Chambers of London, James (Vicki) Chambers of Waterloo and Robin Chambers of Kitchener. Cherished grandmother of Mark (Debbie) Chambers, Michael Chambers and John Jackson. Missed by great grandchildren Isabel, Parry and Talia. Predeceased by her brothers Ernest, Harry, George, Elgin, Bruce, Harvey and sisters Gertrude, Doris and Myrtle.

LAING, Olive I. (née Henderson), of London, formerly of St. Thomas and Winnipeg, passed away peacefully at the McCormick Home on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late G. Bailey Laing (October 25, 1994).  Loved mother of Shirley West and her husband Gary of London.  Olive is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  She was the last remaining member of her generation in our family, having been predeceased by three sisters, Alice Rae, Vera Hodgson, and Edna MacLeod, and by a brother, Stuart Henderson.  Born in Roland, Manitoba on October 4, 1918, she spent her childhood and early adult years in Morden, Manitoba and Winnipeg.  Although Olive moved to St. Thomas from Winnipeg in her late 20’s, she remained a Westerner at heart.  She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Catherine (née Linn) Henderson.  Olive was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St.Thomas, and previously a member of the former Alma Street Presbyterian Church where she was an active volunteer for many years.  Olive was a voracious reader; she loved the classics and poetry, in particular.  She also enjoyed many sports, including a good game of badminton or golf with her family and friends.  In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A public memorial service will be held at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Friday, November 24th at 1:30 p.m.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the service.  Olive’s cremated remains will be interred privately in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Flowers respectfully declined.  Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.

CORREIA, Domingo’s “Nick” – Domingo’s “Nick” Correia died October, 30, 2017. He reunites with his special angel his daughter Elizabeth (1970). He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years Maria and their two surviving children Nelson (Joanne) and Tony (Christine). He also leaves behind his lovingly adored grandson Joseph. Nick is from a very large family who have settled throughout Canada, The United States, Brazil and the Açores. Nick was born in Sao Miguel, Açores before moving to Canada in 1954. Nick was always very proud of his many years of hard work as a labourer. He was a proud member of Local 1089 as well as the Teamsters Union. Nick enjoyed many years of good health before a brief battle with cancer. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to Dr. Crombeen, Dr. Greensmith, Dr. Maddison and all the Staff and Volunteers at St Joseph’s Hospice for their outstanding compassion, care and kindness. Schramek, Sarah “Virginia” (nee Thibeault) of Sarnia

SCHRAMEK, Sarah Virginia – Surrounded by her family at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarah Virginia Schramek died on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the age of 92. In a small town near Windsor on November 12, 1924, Elizabeth Thibeault gave birth to her second daughter, Sarah Virginia. Sarah Virginia is the sister of Edward, Frank and Betty. Virginia, as she liked to be known had worked in Windsor and later joined the Canadian Armed Forces. While in the army, she met her future husband Edward William Schramek who was from a family of 10 in Windsor. Once the war was over, Edward & Viriginia married and settled in Sarnia on Copland Road. They had 4 boys and 2 girls; the late Edward Jr., Jeffery & his wife Denise, and their children Joel (Janice), Debbie O’Hagan (John) & their daughter Sarah, Randy and Beckie and her children Dylan & Meghan, Russell (Debra) and their children Justine, Cody and the late Joe. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Francis & Elizabeth Thibeault and her siblings. Virginia worked as a RNA at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Emergency Department for 25 years after the death of her husband in 1968. We believe her legacy was never to give up. Brodi Lea Hall (Lauzon)  December 21, 1984 – October 26, 2017

Brodi is at peace.

In true Brodi style, she left this world on her own terms and in her own time, surrounded by her loving husband Adam and family.  She made her way to a place where she can walk and talk and sing again.  Her beloved Nana and Papa had her room all ready and now hold her in their loving arms.  We will miss her terribly and look forward to her “Celebration of Life’ in the very near future.  Her family would like to thank everyone who was involved in her care over the past few years with special thanks to her care team at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Care Center, Dr. Michael McConvey, the PSW’s from Independent Living Services, Bayshore and St. Elizabeth and everyone who participated in the “Lift Her Up” fundraiser.  We can never fully express our appreciation for your generosity, kindness and support and the difference you made in our lives.

Brodi is survived by her loving husband Adam, mother, Andrea Lauzon, father, William Redmond, mother and father-in-law, Alyson and Ted Hall, brothers- in- law, Ted and Simon and sister- in- law Danielle. She is also remembered dearly by her large extended family and friends.

COTE, Rosalie Irene (Caron), 96 of Largo, FL passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Largo Medical Center.

Rosalie was the wife of the late Robert J Cote. She was born on December 28, 1920 in Dover, Kent County, Ontario, Canada. Rosalie was the daughter of the late Ladislas & Alma (Trudell) Caron.

She was a bilingual school teacher for the Province of Ontario, Canada. Rosalie retired as a secretary from Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. She was a member of St Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Clearwater, FL. where she served as an usher and a greeter at church and a Eucharistic Minister at Morton Plant Hospital. Rosalie also volunteered at Largo Medical Center and the Largo Cultural Arts Center.

She is predeceased by five sisters Dorothy Fox, Blanche Foy, Pauline Roy, Therese Ferland & Alma Richer and four brothers Regis, L. Philippe, J Paul and Vincent. Rosalie is survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Thursday October 26, at Saint Cecelia Catholic Church in Clearwater, FL.

Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on October 27, 2017 at Banwell Gardens. Loving and devoted wife to the late George Anthony Docherty (Nov 17-12). Loving mother to William (Debra), John (Cynthia), Patrick (Patricia), Dan (Debbie), James (Dawn), Ann, and Edward (Celeste). Cherished grandmother of 17 and dear great-grandmother to 16. Predeceased by 3 brothers George, Jack and Tom Holmes, of which 2 were killed in World War II (Jack and Tom), and 3 sisters Lena Pyne, Sarah Leightizer and Dora Marion. Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. One of Margaret’s joys was bowling in the Sandwich East Bowling League for many years which she was also President of for a period of time. She was also a past President of The Civinette’s Club. After a courageous battle with cancer, Darwyn passed away at home surrounded by family and friends. Passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on October 23, 2017. Reunited with her beloved husband Thomas (1990). Proud mother to Cheryl (2016), Dorlay (2016) and Katheryn. Cherished grandmother to 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents Arthur and Lela McIntyre, and sisters Shirley and Betty and dear friend Rev. Lawrence Parker. She is survived by her brother Arthur and sister Mary Anne. Dorothy had a talent for crocheting, in which she created many afghans and slippers which her family treasured. She will always be remembered for being strong willed, determined and caring to all. ZAMBITO, Pietro, Passed away peacefully on Saturday Oct 21st, at Metropolitan Hospital, at the age of 83 with his family by his side. Born in Montallegro, Italy. Son of the late Giacinto Zambito and Leonarda Leo. Beloved husband of Angelica (nee Parisi) Zambito. Loving father of Gino Zambito (Heather Paisley Zambito), Tony Zambito, Nick Zambito (Kathy Zambito) and Nadia Zambito. Dedicated Nonno of Zachary, Matthew , Victoria, Angelica, Antonia, Pietro, Amanda (Matt Haskell) and Samantha. Dear brother of late Nicola Zambito (Teresa), Norina Proietto (Stefano), and Caterina Bonifacio (Giovanni), the late Vincenza Scalia (Vincenzo). He is remembered by many nieces and nephews. Pietro was retired after having worked 34 years at Chrysler Canada. He enjoyed being surrounded by his family and took pride in providing everything he could for us. Pietro was extremely proud of all four of his children and their families. He was a man who gave us such courage and hope and always reminded us of the preciousness of life. A special thanks to all those who touched Pietro with their kindness throughout his illness. 85 years. Passed away peacefully on October 27, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Manuel Carreira. Loving mother of Amilcar (Margaret) Carreira, Edgar (Carol) Carreira and predeceased by her infant daughter Margaret. Cherished grandmother of Alanna, Kevin (Jessica), Gary (Ashton), Scott (Christina) and great-grandmother of Kyla, Tanner, Layla and Thea. Maria will also be remembered by many brothers, sisters and extended family in Portugal and U.S. Visitation will be held at Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home 197 King St. W. Mr. Yvan Lemay from Hawkesbury passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the age of 86. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie-Claire Primeau; the son of the late Émile Lemay and of the late Annette Laferrière; the loving father of Benoit (Line) and Pierre (Marie-Claude); the adored grandfather of Geneviève-Anne, Katharina, Jean-Christophe, Clarence and Elyse; the dear brother of Jean-Marc (late Denise), Gérald (late Marie), André and Marielle (Luc Jutras). He was predeceased by a brother Denis (Madeleine). He is survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Saint-Pierre-Apôtre Parish in Hawkesbury on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. The family will be present from 9:30 a.m. to receive your condolences. Passed away peacefully on October 29, 2017 surrounded by his family at 66 years of age.  Beloved husband of Lynn for 28 years.  Loving father of Racquel Parsons (Bob), Rachel Huntley, Mike Talbot (Erin), Stephanie Talbot (Gary) and Robin Grondin (Sean).  Precious grandfather of Aimee, Jenna, Melissa, Kyra, Avery, Ella, Kaitlyn, Brendan, Amber, Ryan, Lauren, Calvin, and Brandon. Son of the late Robert and Mabel Huntley. Brother of the late Robert, Marilyn, Pat, Barbara, the late Roy, David, and Scott. Rick was retired from Chrysler after 31 years of dedicated service and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his summer retreat on Manitoulin Island. FIUME: Francesca Maria

FIUME, Francesca Maria (Fontana) – Wife, Mother, Nonna   lost her battle to dementia peacefully on Sunday, October 29th at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. Born November 8th, 1930 in Grimaldi   Italy to Michele and Carmela Fontana.  Sister to Vanda and Giuseppe.  She made her journey on the Vulcania which docked in New York in August 7, 1953.  Making her way to Toronto by train to meet her soon to be husband and love of her life Ettore Angelo Mario Fiume.  The couple married on August 15, 1953 and resided in Toronto.  They had six children.  Maria along with her husband and children moved to Beaverton in 1971 in search of a new beginning after working many years on the night shift to help her husband provide for their children.   Her dream along with her husband Mario was to  be her own boss.  Mario and Maria opened up The Italian Villa Restaurant.  Maria loved not only to cook for her family but for the many customers who came through The Italian Villa door.  Her home style Italian family cooking is still the talk of the town to this day in Beaverton.   She continued her entrepreneurship with Mario by building the Goodview Motel /Restaurant on Osborne Street and the Osborne Plaza.  She was a hard working woman and mother who always wanted to do the best for her children and husband.  Survived by her six children Jean (Saverio), Mary (Rick), Joseph(Debbie), Michael(Mary), Anthony(Anna), Teresa (John) as well as her 14 grandchildren: Rosmarie (Kevin), Nadia (Fortunato), Stephanie (Jeffery), Victoria (Robert), Jennifer (Justin), Steven, Bryan (Lindsay), Michael (Christina), Marc (Andrea), Amanda (Brandon), Christina, Anthony,  Jessica and Joshua and 15 great grandchildren.  Maria a dedicated Mother and Nonna will be sadly missed.  Friends and Family will be received at Mangan Funeral Home (705-426-5777) 332 Osborne Street, Beaverton, Ontario on Wednesday, November 1st from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass on Thursday, November 2nd at 11:00 a.m.  at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 573 Simcoe Street, Beaverton.   Entombment to follow in Orillia at St.  Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers please make a donation in Francesca Maria’s memory to the Alzheimers Society of Simcoe County (please mark with Seniors Care Clinic on the memo line).  This way funds will be directed to the Heart Failure Clinic, contact Susan Nagy 705-329-0909 ext. 3803.  The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Gerry Laudanski and staff her family doctor of 30 years and to the wonderful staff of Southlake Hospital.   On line condolences are welcome at www.manganfuneralhome.com

GIBSON, Mary Josephine “Jo” (née Mann), formerly of Wolfe St., St. Thomas, passed away at Caressant Care on Bonnie Place, St. Thomas on Sunday, October 29, 2017, in her 95th year.  Beloved wife of the late William G. “Bill” Gibson (Nov. 14, 2013).  Dearly loved mother of Joanne Pearce (Jim) and Steven G. Gibson (Janet), and cherished grandmother of Melissa Kneeshaw (Dan), Jeff Pearce (Colleen), Laura Miedema (Matt), and Paul Gibson (Nicole), all of St. Thomas.  Proud great grandmother of Arlen and Jamie Kneeshaw, Abby and Alex Pearce, and Emily Miedema.  Dear sister of  Robert “Bob” Mann (Lola) of Fort Erie, Jim Mann (Alice) of Niagara Falls, Ted Mann of Kitchener, late Lois Detenbeck, and the late Shirley Walkom.  Also fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Jo was born in Yarmouth Twp., Ontario on July 27, 1923.   She was the daughter of the late Louis Arthur Mann and the late Dorothy (née Elson) Mann.  Jo was a retired office manager at Municipal World, St. Thomas.  She was a member of Central United Church, St. Thomas.  The funeral service will be held at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington Street, St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Wednesday, November 1st at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Tuesday afternoon, October 31st from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.  Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or Central United Church will be gratefully acknowledged.
