WREN, Deanne Wallendorf –

Posted by on September 30, 2017

Our dear Gran Dee, as she was known to her grandchildren, passed peacefully on the morning of September 25, at her home in Windsor, Ontario, at the age of 90.

Born in Hollywood, California on April 25, 1927, Deanne was raised in Jefferson City, Missouri and Coral Gables, Florida. She was a golf champion as a teenager, living in a house that overlooked the world famous Biltmore Hotel and Country Club in Coral Gables. After high-school, Deanne attended Stephens College, in Columbia, Missouri. It was there, on a blind date, that she met her future husband, Joe. They married in 1948, and moved to Toronto in 1950, where their children were born and raised, in a beautiful home Deanne designed in the Bridle Path area of Toronto.

Deanne traveled the world many times, first with Joe and her friends from the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) in the 1960’s and 1970’s, and later, she went on many grand journeys with her children, grandchildren, and close friends.

Deanne was a Life Master, many times over, at duplicate bridge and a champion curler at The Granite Club. She was a life-long member of Rosedale Golf Club and The Granite Club in Toronto, as well as The Surf Club and La Gorce Country Club in Miami Beach.

Deanne moved away from Toronto in 2015, and enjoyed a quieter life in small-town Windsor for the summer and fall, and then as a snowbird in winter, at the bustling retirement city in central Florida, called The Villages. In her final months, all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were able to visit her often, both in Windsor, and at The Villages.

Deanne was pre-deceased by her husband Joseph Goree Wren, daughter Wendy Lewis Wren Rosch, and grandson Joseph Campbell Rosch. She will spend eternity with them in a small cemetery in College Corner, Ohio, the birthplace of her mother, Emily Gertrude Pults Wallendorf. She will be greatly missed by her three remaining children, Dr. Jody Ann Wren, Deborah Clarke Wren Brinn (Stuart), Lawrence Wallendorf Wren; her six adoring grandchildren, Emily Pults Sanders Steczo (Andrew), Kevin Wren Brinn (Kris), Clarke Campbell Brinn, Dr. Brian Penner Sanders, Dr. Ryan Kern Brinn (Jackie), Charles Wren Rosch Brinn (Jordin); and her three beautiful great-grandchildren, Lorelei Anja Brinn, Andrew Wesley Steczo, and Campbell Elaine Steczo.

The family will have a private funeral for Deanne in Oxford, Ohio on Tuesday, October 2, followed by internment, next to her loved ones, at the College Corner Cemetery in College Corner, Ohio.

Arrangements entrusted to Windsor Chapel Funeral Home and online condolences and cherished memories may be shared to www.windsorchapel.com

Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. It’s never easy saying goodbye, especially to someone who holds a big piece of our hearts. Our Mom/wife was the most amazing lady. She was so loved by everyone she met. She lit up the room and was always the life of the party. She had a way of making everyone feel so special. Ruth was born December 23, 1946 to the late Betty (Tiessen) and Peter Loewen. Ruthie was loved and will be greatly missed by her husband Paddy and her children Jim (Julie), Andy (Anna) and Elizabeth.
