COOK, Dorothy Anne of Sarnia

Cook-Photo-WebCOOK, DOROTHY ANNE – Wouldn’t seem appropriate to have a typical obituary for our mom Dorothy (Kell) Cook-she was no ordinary woman. She always had sass even as a young woman of 15! When she realized her dream of becoming a nurse would have to wait till she was 18 – she thought the heck with that and took off to Sarnia where she got a job as a switch board operator for Bell. She went on to work for the County of Lambton where she retired from in 1989. She was always a stubborn woman with her own convictions. She married our dad September 8, 1954. They had three daughters Christine, Julie, and Jennifer. Our mom was definitely not a warm and fuzzy woman. She taught her girls to be strong willed, independent women and their husbands can attest to that! Our mom never minced words – She was a no-nonsense person! She believed if you wanted a university education all you needed was to go to the library and read! She’d be on her 10th degree by now if that were true! She never wanted for much, but for her kids to be happy. She kept us grounded as well as our dad. Stayed in the same house they built till she could stay no more and lived the rest of her days out at St. Joseph Hospice in Sarnia. Her humour very unsuspecting of such a woman with such grace! Those that knew her well knew her to have a good heart, a bright mind, a naughty sense of humour! She was predeceased by her husband, our dad, Bob Cook and her brother David Kell and in laws Ron Cook (Carol). She leaves behind her sister Betty Harding and brother William Kell (Ria), in laws Denyse Kell, Barbara McCallum and Ross Cook (Denise). She is survived by her daughters Christine Todd and husband Paul, Julie Donald and husband Craig and Jennifer Renaud and husband Stephen. Also left behind are her grandchildren Joe VanBoven, Mike VanBoven, Jessica Cook, and Austin Renaud. She will be truly missed by all those that loved her but her impact she left behind will forever shine. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Thursday, August September 1st, 2016 at 2:00 pm with visiting prior to the service starting at 12:30 pm. A private family committal service will be held later at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial donations made to St. Joseph’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family. Memories and messages of condolence may be sent through www.djrobb.on.ca. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Crombeen and the wonderful compassionate staff at St. Joseph Hospice.
