He is survived by cherished wife and soul-mate Penny Gabrieau-Zoppa and father-in-law Barney Gabrieau. He will be missed by nieces Sarah Zoppa-Hilton (Keith), Samantha Zoppa, Gina Zoppa, Andrea Madden, Kimberly Wilson, Chantelle, Melissa and Jessica Gabrieau and nephews Derek Wilson and Danny Wilson (Samantha). He is predeceased by parents Gildo (1986) and Petronilla “Josie” (1982) Zoppa, brother Gino Zoppa (2013), sister-in-law Sandra Zoppa (Happy)(2010) and mother-in-law Leona Gabrieau (2004). Aldo had a great love of all living creatures and in this spirit the family requests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in his name to Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Wings took in injured and sick Racoons that Aldo brought in to be cared for and released. Waller editAt London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital, on Sunday, November 29th, 2015, DOROTHY ALICE (née JONES) WALLER, of London (formerly of Palmerston), in her 84th year.  Beloved wife of the late George Waller (2008).  Proud Mother of Peter (Kathleen), Kathryn (Mike Cull), Kenneth (Karen) and Thomas (Monica).  Cherished Grandma and Nana to Shaunacy, Ashley, Quinn, Kelsey, Shelby, Madison, Eilish and Hayden and Great-grandma to Reaghan, Harper and Alice.  Dorothy was born and raised in Dunnville to the late Alan and Dorothy (née Ward) Jones.  She is survived by her sister, Nina Creighton and brother, Danny Jones.  She was proud to have trained as a Registered Nurse at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children and worked for over 35 years, mostly at the Palmerston and District Hospital, in the Emergency Ward and Operating Room.  Dorothy and George moved to Palmerston as newlyweds, intending to spend only one year but remained there, with a huge circle of close friends, for nearly 40 years, retiring to life at the Cottage on the lake, near Kingston.  Together, they were both actively involved in their community, always enjoying helping others.  We want to thank the Doctors and Nurses at London Health Sciences Centre who assisted Mom with care during her visits, especially the staff at the LRCP and the Oncology Day Unit.  Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario on Saturday, December 5th, 2015.  Visitation will be at 4:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 5:00 p.m., followed by a reception.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate your donation on behalf of Dorothy to the London Regional Cancer Program or a charity of your choice.

Born June 03, 1925 in Abbateggio, Italy, Rosario passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on November 30, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Beloved husband to the love of his life Carmela (Di Marco) for 57 years. Cherished father of Connie Rosati (Ray), Angelo DeThomasis (Janice) and Tony DeThomasis (Janet). Loving Tatone to Vanessa Kurucz (Rich), Victoria Rosati, Carson, Curtis and Camille DeThomasis and great Tatone to Brodie Kurucz. Dearest brother to Anna and Assunta of Abbateggio, Italy. Predeceased by his parents Arcangelo and Concetta (nee DiCesira) and also his sisters Elena, Grazietta, Maria (Vincenzo), Giovinna (Vincenzo) DeThomasis and Lucia Scipione (Paolo). Beloved brother in law of Vittorio DiMarco (Maria) of Chieti, Italy. Predeceased by brothers and sisters in law Grazietta and Arnaldo D’Orazio, Amedina and Constantino Pagliarella, Raffaele and Maria DiMarco, Guido and Cesina DiMarco and Assunta and Carmen Lupone. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Rosario immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1951 where he worked in construction and at Marra’s Bread before receiving his seniority and retiring from General Chemical after 33 years of service. Rosario was a very hardworking man, making sure he always provided a good life for his family whom he cherished. He loved his garden and spent countless hours tending to his vegetables and sharing his bountiful harvest with his family and neighbours. We will always carry his memory in our hearts and will miss him very much. Donations made to the Windsor-Essex Cancer Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Gordon will live in the hearts and memories of his four grandchildren, Katelyn, Ashley, Carter and Davis. Brother of Lois Wilson. He was predeceased by his infant sister Louise and parents, Cecil and Mae (MacKinnon) Keith.

Visitation will be held at Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley on Wednesday from 7 – 9 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment in Douglas Hill Cemetery.

RIJ PICJohn Charles Rij, at the age of 63, passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Cathy, and family by his side at Matthew’s House Hospice, in Alliston, ON, on November 25, 2015.

John was born November 3, 1952 in Alliston, ON. He lived his entire life in the area. He farmed for many years outside of Everett. He drove truck for many years, and anyone that knew him, he was a jack of all trades.

Survived by his wife, Cathy. They were married for 43 years. They have 2 sons, Christopher John Rij, and Derek Richard Rij (Shannon). Survived by 4 grandchildren, Kyle, Dylan, Savannah, and Cole, whom loved their Papa dearly. John’s 2 sisters, Mary Anne Sears (Barrie), and Cheryl (Karl) Haza of Everett. Uncle John will be sadly missed by his special nieces, Kerry, Carli (Brent), and Erin. He will be missed by other family and friends.

John was predeceased by both his parents, Nick and Donna Rij, and his older brother Rick Rewega.

A “Celebration of John’s Life”, will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 between 1 and 4 pm at his sister and brother in law, Cheryl and Karl Haza at 6801 Pine Plains Road, Everett, ON.

He was the loving husband of 59 years to Joan Charlane (Roberts) Peters and dear father of Mark Peters, Cheryl Cates (Philip), Greg Peters (Donna), Doug Peters and Michelle Peters, Grandfather of 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Ethel and John, brothers Ross, Harold, Orville and his sister Dorothy Brandon and his granddaughter Heather Cates. Norm retired from Polysar in 2000 after many years of service. He enjoyed a hobby with his wife Joan for Carport Crafts. Friends may visit with the family at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Wednesday, December 2nd between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Marjorie was born July 1, 1934 in Warwick Township, Lambton County.  Marjorie worked along side her husband Allan, as the proud owners of Manto Warehousing.  She was a member of the Hanover Lion’s Club and then the Walkerton Lion’s Club, the Hanover Hospital Auxiliary and site conservation with C.N.I.B..

Predeceased by her beloved husband Allan in May of 1996. Dear mother of Ron Manto & Jackie of Tiverton, Susan & Doug Schaus of RR #1 Elmwood, Lynda & Darryl Beitz of RR #1 Hanover. John was 53 years young. John was a valiant fighter, but did not win the battle against Brain Cancer Glioblastoma (GBM). John was a proud member of Local 46 (formerly Local 599) of Plumbers, Steamfitters, and Welders Union. He was also known to many as Master John Bernier Nidai Soke Genkido Kempo, 2nd generation head of the Genkido Kempo family. Master title in Goshin Kwan Combat system. John is 1 of 3 Nidai Soke, also 1 of 3 Masters of Goshin Kwan. In 2001 John was entered into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame. John also loved his scuba diving while traveling around the world, although he had many places still to visit he completed some of his life dreams. John was a beloved husband for 33 yrs to Leslie. Cherished father of Tanya. Predeased by mother Geraldine, survived by his Father Phil and his two sisters Theresa and Ann and their families, along with many other loving family members and friends both personal and professional. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 87 on November 29, 2015. Born and raised in Partinico, Palermo, he immigrated to Windsor in 1957 to start a new life with his beloved wife, Giuseppina Landa (Marchese), to whom he was married for 58 years. Gaspare enjoyed working in his garden and took particular pride in his fig trees. Like many immigrants, he worked hard to provide opportunities for his family, and in doing so he opened and ran a successful shoe repair business, and later retired from Monarch Mattress. Adoring father to Rose Lesperance and husband Rob, Benny Carnevale and husband Angelo, Angela Dunn and husband Pat. He was, and always will be the proud nonno to nine grandchildren: Tyler, Jessica (Boris), Nathan, Austin, Jasmyne (Jeff), Ali (Darin), Christian (Emily), Zakari and Lyjah. Beloved son of the late Tomasso and Rosa Landa. Dear brother of Gioacchino (Giuseppina) Landa; late sister Angelina (Paolo) Antico. brother-in-law of Enza Franzella and late husband Giuseppe; Catarina Bonura and late husband Pietro; late Maria and Pietro Foto; and Rosalia and late husband Pasquale. Gaspare will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Reunited with her precious grandson Jeffrey (1994), and all of her loving family and friends who have welcomed her home. Survived by her brother Marcel “Pitt” Gagnon, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in Windsor, USA and Lenola, Italy. Onorato was a proud member of LiUNA 625 and worked as a dedicated construction labourer for many years with Loaring Construction until his retirement in 2001. It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of a great man who was embraced by God at the age of 70. Born in Windsor, Ontario on August 28, 1945. Jerry passed away November 26, 2015 after a long battle with ALS in the arms of his loving wife Sharon, with whom he shared 49 years of love and marriage. Devoted father to son Michael and wife Kerry, son Christopher, son Kenneth and wife Natalie, daughter Jody Miller and her husband Cameron. Precious Papa to his grandchildren, Jordan, Carley, Liam, Dawson, Samantha, Brooke, Amber, Connor, Ryan and Cassidy. Reunited with his parents Ludger and Marie. Survived by his sisters Dorothy and Mary Ann and his brother Jimmy and wife Jan. Jerry will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. Koning-webKONING, BETSY – At St. Joseph’s Hospice on Friday, November 27, 2015, Betsy (Liewes) Koning, age 85 of Sarnia passed away peacefully. She was the loving wife of the late Theodoricus (Rick) Koning (1997) and dear mother of and Jon Koning (Kathy) and Diana Koning of Sarnia, grandmother of Irene and Leo, great-grandmother of Brody and Cora, sister of Antje, Sjoukje, Siena, Froukje and Henk, and several nieces and nephews also survive in the Netherlands. She was predeceased by her sister Jantje and brothers Oente, Klaas and Geert. Betsy was born in the Netherlands and has been a Sarnia resident since 1955. She had been a volunteer at Marshall Gowland Manor and attended Paterson Memorial Church for many years. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Tuesday, December 8th at 11:00 am. Friends may visit at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts made through donations to the Sarnia Humane Society, St. Joseph’s Hospice or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
