Web PictureHarvey Maurice Mann of Hanover, formerly of Chesley, passed away at Hanover & District Hospital on Monday, September 28, 2015 in his 80th year.

Harvey was predeceased by the love of his life, Shirley Mann. He is survived by his children, Heather, Shannon, Shawn, Jarrod, Robert, Elysia; grandchildren Melissa, Jonathon, Taylor, Brianna, Connor, Beacan, Logan, Ethan, Brady and Alaura. Beloved brother of Norma Janser and dear friend to Maurice and Gloria Bilodeau; their children Kim and Maurice; and grandchildren Louis and Madison.

Harvey was predeceased by his siblings Elizebeth Renwick, Robert Mann and James Mann and his parents, Charles and Margaret (Hildebrandt) Mann.

A memorial service celebrating Harvey’s life will be held at Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1 p.m. Inurnment in Hemstock Cemetery, Chatsworth.

Memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Princess Margaret Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Finally, no one will forget his antics and demeanour (good or bad), especially the amazing staff and friends at the Chesley Hospital, The Hanover Care Centre and Day Away Program. He will live on in the hearts and minds of many.

Dad will always be remembered by his loving family, friends and an untold number of students inspired and nurtured by his passion for teaching during almost 40 years as an educator. Born in London, Ontario, “Bob” graduated from Sir Adam Beck Collegiate in 1938 and went on to earn an Honours B.A. in French and German from The University of Western Ontario (1942), and both his M.A. in Spanish and his Ph.D. in Spanish and Romance Linguistics from The University of North Carolina (1948, 1958). Between 1942 and 1946: he served overseas as an intelligence officer with the Canadian Army, was named Knight Officer, Order of Orange Nassau by the Netherlands government in 1945, received the Canada Decoration in 1948, and in 2014, was named a Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour by France. Upon returning from overseas he served as Commanding Officer of the Canadian Officers Training Corps. He began teaching at The University of Western Ontario in 1946 and went on to become chairman of the Department of Spanish and Italian, Dean of Middlesex College, and Executive Assistant to the President from 1968 to 1975. He retired January 1, 1984 as Professor Emeritus and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the University in 1985. At the time he was described by then president D. Carlton Williams as a “devoted servant of Western” and “the first among equals of those who have served the University out of love, loyalty and duty”. He was the author of several articles and books dealing with Old Spanish, compiled and edited They Passed This Way – a collection of citations for honorary degrees – for the University’s centennial in 1978, and was awarded the Alumni Award of Merit in 1982. Dr. Shervill is survived by sons Lynn (Sheila), Paul (Linda) and Rob (Marlyn); grandchildren Daniel, Michael, Chris, Jessica and Tammie (Ken); and great-grandchildren Shaelene and Casey. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years Ethel Irene (2010) and daughter Linda Lee (2011). A memorial service for friends and family will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Private interment of ashes at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Beloved wife and companion of Elmer. Loving mother of Vernon (Diane) of Airdrie, AB, Wayne of Santa Barbara, California, Murray of Clarksburg and Elaine (David) Brears of Englehart. She will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren Christina, Erin, Candace, Olivia, Emma, Ryan, Zackary, Calista, Jasmin, Nicole, Bradley, Travis, Tristan and great-grandsons, Lennon and Bohdi. Elda leaves behind her siblings, Leone, Richard, Merle, Elva, Tom, Rena and Gordon.

Passed away peacefully on September 24, 2015 at the age of 73 years. Reunited with her husband Michael Maslak (2014) sharing 53 years of marriage. Loving Mom to Eugene and his wife Tammy Maslak. Adored “Aunt Elaine” to Samantha. Loving sister to Delores Day. Predeceased by her parents Alex and Elsie Ostapowich. Dear aunt to Mark Day, and Nicole Day. Elaine was an employee of the former Dominion Forge after many years of dedicated service. She was a devoted member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and its Ladies Organization. Elaine dedicated her time to making perogies, writing Easter eggs, doing crossword puzzles and enjoying scratchies. Marija passed away on the morning of September 22 in her 68th year. Loving and devoted wife to Pavao Zagar for 44 years. Beloved Mother to Lidia and Peter Vrhovsek, Ivana and Robert Desilets, Nadalie and Karl Kokic, Josip and Andrea Zagar. Adoring Baba to Claudia, Lukas, Jakob, Victoria, Adam and Mia who is blessed to receive her Baba’s love in Heaven. Predeceased by her parents Marija and Josip Zbiljski. Loving sister to Ankica and the late Ivan Ecimovic, Vikica and the late Pajo Fadljevic, Slavica and Jozef Kovacic, Rezika and Anton Koren, Vilim and Ines Zbiljski, Stef and Bozica Zbiljski, all of Europe. Loving sister-in-law to the late Marica (Ivan) Juracic, the late Josip Zagar, Manda Zagar, Ana (Ivica) Krpan and the late Josipa (Slavko) Grabovac. She was also the proud aunt of many nieces and nephews in Canada, Croatia, Germany and Slovenia. Marija worked at Hiram Walker for 30 years, where she made some of her best and closest friends.
