Died at his residence on Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Shirley Ann Hunter. Predeceased by his sons Robert Allan (2011) and Gregory Britton (1985) and brother-in-law Del Bell (1989). Survived by his daughter-in-law Cindy Hunter, sister-in-law Margaret, niece Cassie, nephews Allan and Douglas and their families, and friends. Brit was a life member of the Masonic Lodge Belleville Trent 125 and Scottish Rite Centennial 684. Special thanks to the C.C.A.C. and V.O.N. for their exceptional care. Cremation has taken place. KnapperC3Carol died peacefully of a stroke at the Northumberland Hills Hospital on Saturday, December 28th, with her husband of 53 years, Harry, holding her hand.  She was in her 81st year.  Carol will be deeply missed and was lovingly adored by her children Keith (Michele) of Cobourg, Elizabeth (Steve) of Port Perry and Andrew (Rachel) of Glasgow, Scotland.  Carol was a devoted grandmother and took great interest in following the growing up progress of Peter, Christopher, Alexander, Emma, Margaret, Joseph and Noah.  Carol was the sister of Suzanne Whyte (Harry) of Sarnia and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  She also maintained her Scottish roots by attending Ross Clan reunions.

Carol graduated from Western University (London) with an honors degree in geography, taught for a number of years at the primary and secondary school levels and retired as head of geography at East York Collegiate (Toronto).  Her interests in the world’s geographic and social features drew her to worldwide travel, enjoying her academic research for each country visited.

Carol’s support for her community led her to be a canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation for over twenty years.  Her skill at piano encouraged her to play in the St. Peter’s hand bell choir for over ten years, entertaining residents of retirement and treatment homes.  She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.

Carol had a great zest for life and was noted in her C.F.U.W. hiking and walking groups as a great strider and always at the head of the pack.  She was a formidable cross country skier for over forty years, regularly achieving gold standard total yearly kilometers achieved.  She enjoyed lawn bowling at the local and provincial levels for over 40 years, and was a past president of the Cobourg Lawn Bowling Club.  She also contributed time and effort to maintain the cross country ski trails in the Northumberland forest.

Visitation to be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E. in Cobourg on Friday, January 17th from 7-9 pm.  Friends are invited to join the family at a memorial service and celebration of life to be held on Saturday, January 18th at 11 am at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, King St. W., Cobourg.

Maria BauerBAUER, Ms. Maria, of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, December 27, 2013, in her 70th  year.  Mother of Christopher Bauer (Susi) of St. Thomas, and Jennifer Cordeiro of London.  Grandmother of Megan and Dylan.  Sister of Irene Horton (Wyatt), Helen Bauer, Frances Daines (Larry), Andrew Bauer (Linda), Steve Bauer (Helen), and the late John Bauer. Also survived by cousins; Margaret Gehring, Betty Davis (Howard), Stephen Mago (late Cathy), and Joe Bor, and their families.  Born in St. Williams, ON, January 27, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Maria (nee Mago) Bauer.  In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private memorial service will be held  at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Saturday, January 4, 2014.  Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice gratefully acknowledged.

She was the loving wife of Frederick (Fred) McCord and dear mother of Randy and his wife Lydia of Brights Grove and Karen Vandermeer and her husband Art of Corunna, grandmother of Michelle Vandermeer, Jennifer McCord and twins Joy and Jordan Vandermeer and great-grandmother of Carter and Faith Vandermeer and Constantine Taylor. She was predeceased by her parents Carl and Helen, her sister Agnes Cross and brothers Charles and Frank. Doris retired from Manley’s after 35 years of service, she was Treasurer of Southwestern Ontario Presbytery and was involved in the Point Edward church for 40 years and volunteered as a leader with the Cub Scouts. NEWALL, JAMES ROYDEN – Peacefully, at his home on Sunday, December 29, 2013.  Jim, formerly of Warsaw, just days before his 74th birthday.  Husband of Helen (Née Clements) for 46 years.  Father of Calvin (Shannon) of Mississauga, Braden (Krista) of Cavan and Jim (Golnar) of California.  Grandfather to Michael, Finlay, Blake, Tyson, Paige, Rachael and Maya.  Brother in law of Doris McIntyre (Fred), John Clements (Joan) and Marie Bolton and Ross Bolton.  Uncle to Debbie West (Brent), Ron McIntyre, Stephanie Bolton (Greg), Andrew Bolton, Tammy Trotter (Mark), Tim, Jim, Ken and Lynda Downer.  Jim was predeceased by parents Cora Pettifer and George Newall, his son Lance, nephew John Clements Junior, sister Mary Downer, brothers in law Wilf Downer and Ronnie Clements, and parents in law Wiline and Ron.  A Memorial Service will be held at COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL HOME –ASHBURNHAM CHAPEL 840 Armour Road on Thursday, January 2 at 11 a.m.  Reception to follow.  Inurnment at St. Mark’s Cemetery-Warsaw at a later date.  If desired, directions to the service, condolences to the family or donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Sick Kids Hospital may be made at www.CommunityAlternative.ca or by calling at 705-740-0444.

STEELE, Margaret Jean Ann (Peggy) –  Suddenly at her home December 26, 2013, with family by her side.  Predeceased by her first husband Angus MacIntyre and beloved daughter Kim Dekker. Dearly loved mother of Angus Pelletier, Wesley Steele (Zeny), and Charlie Pelletier (Alexis). Beloved Nana of Nicholas and Jonathan Abbatiello, Sarah Margaret Steele and Dilon Pelletier. Peggy also leaves behind sisters Linda and Shirley, special aunts Betty and Ivy, dear cousin Chuckie and good friend Eleanor, along with many other aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her support workers Rose, LeeAnne, Simone, Liz and Wayne.  Peggy was a wonderful, strong woman who always found a way to keep laughing no matter how tough things got. She had a love for sweets and baking, vegetable and flower gardening and going out with her toy Pomeranians Buddy and Rocky (and the late Angel) as much as she could. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. In keeping with Peggy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME. In memory of Peggy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

GOSNELL: Janice Eileen – A resident of R.R. # 2 Kent Bridge, Janice Gosnell passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the age of 63. Born in Chatham, Janice was the daughter of the late Walter and Kathleen (Hall) Gosnell. Predeceased by her sister Patricia Gosnell (1999) and her brother Howard Gosnell (2000). Sister-in-law to Maxine Gosnell of Windsor and Doug Waymouth of Chatham. Dear aunt to Todd Waymouth (Gayle) of Belle River, Elaine Woloszyn of Simcoe, Gail Grantmyer (Jacob) of Windsor and Gary Gosnell (Megan) of Windsor. Predeceased by Tracey Hulme and Arlene Gosnell. Great-aunt to Ryley Hulme, Kelsi Hulme and Josh Carron. Also missed by many friends and extended family. Janice was kind and generous to all and an avid animal lover. Arnold AlguireEntered into rest at the Brockville General Hospital, Charles Street Site on Monday December 30, 2013, Arnold Terry Alguire of Brockville age 69 years. Arnold is survived by his brother Harvey Kirkby and his family, cousins Jean Young, Jim Moore (Lynda), Michael Moore, Elaine Osborne (Bob), Cherie Moore and several cousins in the area.

 

Family and friends may call at the Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Friday January 3rd, from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday January 4th, 2014 from 12 noon – 1:45 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery at a later date.
