At home, following a lengthy illness, in London, Ontario on Friday, August 30, 2013 in her 82nd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Thomas Bruce. Loving mother to Troy Marie Marshall (David) and Todd Richard (Jayne). Devoted and much loved Nanny to Kathleen, John and Nicholas Marshall, Emily and Amanda Graham. Our mom was born and raised in Halifax, N.S. and met her husband Tom at a YMCA dance in 1952. Dad, serving in the Navy, was quick to snap her up and they were married in 1953. Mom lived the life of a typical “Navy” wife and stayed at home taking care of us kids and everything else, while Dad was at sea. They resided in Halifax until 1972 when they moved to London. It wasn’t until Dad’s second career at GM diesel that she was able to follow along with him and they spent a great year in Cairo, Egypt seeing the pyramids, the Nile, the Valley of the Kings and travelling throughout the country. From there they spent another year in Tumbler Ridge, Northern B.C. and again saw much of the surrounding wilderness.  Mom suffered throughout most of her life with Lupus but always was able to provide a great home and life for her family. She always took great joy in her children and grandchildren and was rewarded with their unconditional love.  Kathleen (Kay) is predeceased by her parents Horace (Bob) and Marie-Louise Steel and sister Ivy Marceau (Harry). Survived by her brother and sisters, John Steel (Pam), Shirley Blanchard (Roland), Florence Zinck (Dexter), Veronica O’Neil (David), Beatrice Grant (Jim) and Lillian Steel. Dear brother of Harry (Riek) Klinker, Rennie (Bill) Luinstra, Effie (Menno) Eelkema, and Jack Klinker. Dear brother-in-law of Aafke and Folkert Graansma, Janna and Jerry Graansma, Jantje and Gerrit VanderMeer, Wietze and Mary Zwart, Bert and Sylvia DenHartog, Hilda DeVries, and Frank and Diane Dam. Predeceased by his father Bouwe W. Klinker, his mother Jantje (Klinker) Tamming, and his sister Alice Klinker. Don will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Visitation will be Friday August 30, 2013 from 1-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Strathroy East Christian Reformed Church (476 Metcalfe Street East).  The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, August 31 at 1pm.  Burial to follow. Don was well known through the community as the friendly barber from 1968-2010.  To quote the Middlesex Banner (October 10, 2010) upon his retirement: “When asked if there was anything he wanted to say in closing, his words were simple. ‘End it with “have a funny day and be strong”, I told that to almost everyone when they were done (in the chair)’.”    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Strathroy Community Christian School or London Diabetes Foot Clinic in memory of Don.  A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Donald.
