HINES: Bernice of Sarnia

Posted by on June 30, 2013

Hines - photo copyWe are greatly saddened by the sudden passing of Bernice Hines on June 28, 2013 at Bluewater Health. Beloved wife of 60 years to Ron Hines, dear mother of Gord, Ken, and Gerry, daughters-in-law Jennifer, Janet and Joanne, and cherished grandmother to Christine, Kaitlyn, Sheldon, Dave, Cody, and Meghan.
Bernice lived a full, varied and satisfying life. Starting her life on a farm in Bruce County, she ventured out to University in Toronto to become a physiotherapist. Upon graduation, she moved to Sarnia where she met and married her love Ron and pursued an active and successful multi-staged career. She was a full time mother, physiotherapist, executive assistant and finished her career by developing a successful RESP consulting practice which she ran for more than 25 years, finally retiring only recently!
Bernice always put the needs of others before her own and was dedicated to her family, who she was always able to gather with the smell of her homemade apple pie. She guided her sons with her sage advice and ‘suggestions’ and eagerly welcomed her daughters-in-law into the family – quite delighted to have female influence join the family. Her grandchildren and ‘adopted’ grandchild eagerly looked forward to spending time with her each summer at ‘granny-camp’.
She was always a determined and optimistic Lady, who put education first and above all else. She proudly helped to guide her sons and grandchildren to success in their educational endeavours.
Bernice was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A funeral service and reception will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at 12 noon at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line in Sarnia. There will be no public visitation.
Sympathy may be expressed through donations to a charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please). Memories and condolences may be sent online at smithfuneralhome.ca

BRUCE, Donald Ernest…

Peacefully in his home, in London, ON on June 25, 2013, one week before his 96th birthday. Don was the loving husband of Isobel, who predeceased him in 2009, and dear father of Joan Bruce (Ian Burns), Susan McDougall (Keith Kerr), and Bill Bruce (Mary Jane Moreau). He was beloved by his grandchildren Laura Rubino (Steve Ong’udi), Max Rubino, Martha McDougall (Marc McDougall), Matthew Moreau, Elora Moreau (Chris Bagley), as well as two great grandsons. Don was born in Kincardine, ON. He served proudly in the RCAF, both in Canada and overseas during WWII. He worked as a teacher, vice-principal and principal for the London and District School Board.  He will be missed by all who knew him. The family is grateful to the many people who supported Don in his latter years, in particular Jenifer Placido Asuncion, Chery Ann Gamilong and Maurice Gonzales Roxas. Cremation has taken place, and family will gather later in July for a graveside interment at Mount Pleasant cemetery in London to honour Don’s life. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation appreciated. A. Millard George Funeral Home, entrusted with arrangements 519-433-5184.  Online memories and condolences may be shared at http://www.amgfh.com/
