Passed away peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Thursday, January 31, 2013, Leah Betsy Rees of Ailsa Craig at the age of 92.  Loving wife of the late John Ernest Rees.  Dear mother of Izetta (the late George) Blackman and John (Jo-Anne) Rees.  Beloved grandmother of Moe Blackman, Robert (Jennifer) Rees, the late Ronald, the late Richard and Heather Smith-Rees (Matthew Smith).  Survived by great grandchildren Harley, Tanner, Sebastian, Liam, Ciaran, Bronwyn, Ronan, Virginia and Gwynnevere,.  Sadly missed by her sister Mandy Inwood.  Predeceased by 10 siblings.  Friends will be received on Sunday, February 3rd from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at T. McLaren (for LFP)With great sadness Suzanne McLaren (Gerry Alger), Scott McLaren (Linda McLaren), Betty Jean O’Reilly (Dave O’Reilly) announce that our gentle, sweet, mother, Valetta May (Henderson) McLaren born November 8, 1915 passed away January 30, 2013 in Victoria Hospital, London. Valetta was predeceased by husband Bill (William John) McLaren 1998. Valetta was a proud and loving grandma and great-grandma to Jennifer and Meghan Leitch, Christine and Emmett O’Reilly, Tom and Angela Porter, Tammy Porter, son Shane, Laura and Vlado Bali and children Maddison, Matthew, and Lucas. She took real delight in her children and grandchildren’s achievements. Mom looked forward to the yearly cottage adventure where she soaked up her family’s sunshine. Valetta is survived, in her generation, by loving sisters-in-law Marion (McLaren) Fidlin (Norwich), and Margaret Henderson (London). She will be remembered fondly by numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. Valetta was the youngest child of five children born to Edwin Henderson and Maggie Ann Carruthers, Caradoc Township. She was pre-deceased by her parents, elder sister Elizabeth (Henderson) Bolton and brothers, John, Frank, and William Henderson. All lived long and healthy lives. Mother, forever a quiet, country girl, loved life working in partnership with Dad in our dairy operation on Finnart Farm, North Dorchester Township. She was a member of Crumlin United Church, the UCW, and Crumlin Women’s Institute. Mom and Dad retired to property in London originally settled by McLarens. Family was the most important thing in her life. Mother delighted in visits from children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her gardens and the backyard overlooking Kiwanis Park. Spring, summer, and fall would find her sitting in her Adirondack chair contentedly observing birds and the changing seasons. Mom thoroughly enjoyed afternoon drives to view familiar neighborhoods and the progress of crops over the growing season. After entering Maple View Retirement Residence she looked forward to water colour painting classes. Visitation, Monday, February 4, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London will be followed by a celebration service beginning 11:00 a.m. honouring Valetta’s life with Reverend Kathy Fraser, North Caradoc – St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church officiating. An interment service will follow at Dorchester Union Cemetery, Dorchester. At Afton Park Place on Monday January 28, 2013 Elizabeth (Betty) (Price) Kerby age 88 of Sarnia. Beloved wife to Ross K. Kerby of 58 years. Precious mother of David Harris, Mark Harris and his wife Cynthia, Joel Harris and his wife Kathy and Ross Kerby and his wife Dorothy all of the Sarnia area. Cherished grandmother of Sharon (Stephen), Michael; Wesley; Chris (Michelle), David (Fiona), Tony (Kim), Jeff (Laura); Julie, Jeff and great-grandmother to 6 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Frank Price and sister in law of Don Kerby and his wife Brenda. Predeceased by her first husband Michael Harris in 1951 and sister in law Marguerite Price. Betty enjoyed a lifelong love affair with the waterfront and boating in Sarnia and wintering in Florida for 21 years. Resting at the D. J. Clauws: Gordon age 71 of Chatham formerly of Dresden passed away Tuesday January 29, 2013 in Avon Park Florida. He was born in Camden Township (Dawn Mills) son of the late George and Suzanne (Keymel) Clauws. Gord was co owner of leader Publications Dresden. He belonged to Dresden Kinsmen Club, K-40 club, President of Rotary Club of Dresden, President of the Ontario Community Newspaper Association and a member of the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association.  Surviving is his wife Marilyn (Gonyou) Clauws of Chatham, sons:  Shawn Clauws of Chatham and Darren Clauws and wife Carol of Tampa Florida and granddaughter Paige, sisters Audrey Whitson of Watford and Grace McNeil of Wallaceburg.  He is predeceased by a sister Susan Pepper.  Visitors will be received at the Thomas L. Carole Elaine Shillington passed away peacefully at the hospital in Chatham on January 30th, 2013.  Born in Chatham 69 years ago to the late Francis and Margaret (Suitor) Balmer, she is survived by her husband of 47 years Paul of Erieau, three daughters; Kelly of Windsor, Lynn (Pat) Pearson and Heather (Matt) Boswell both of Chatham.  Also survived by Aunts Gen Finlin of Merlin and Betty Suitor of Chatham, along with many cousins; brother-in-laws Peter (Ruth) and Jim (Mary) Shillington, nephews Harold (Dawn) and Cameron Shillington, nieces Gen (Dr. David) Huffman and Kim Shillington.

Carole enjoyed travelling, golfing, curling, sailing and Shriners Hospitals for Children through her membership in the Daughters of the Nile.  Her real passion was her grandchildren Bridget and Bryan Lyne; Madelyn, Jacob, Alexander, Abigail, Isaac and Johnathin Pearson, Benjamin Boswell and Danielle Laier.  Her special and dear friends were her bridge club members of 48 years and Anne Gilbert. 

Carole was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law Peggy and Clare Shillington.

A celebration of Carole’s life will take place at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Saturday February 9th, 2013 at 11 a.m. with visitation on February 8th from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9 p.m.  A private interment will take place at a later date.

BARTLEY: Barbara Rose of Point Edward

On the morning of Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Barbara Rose Bartley, 76, continued her journey as she passed on to be welcomed into the Lord’s Kingdom. Barbara was born October 8, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Jessie and Ellen (Sage) Roberts. Married 58 years to the love of her life and best friend, Franklin C. Bartley Sr. on August 21, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan. They moved to Sarnia in 1960 where they raised four wonderful children Charles (Jo-Ann) Bartley, Ellen Larocque (John Benjamin), Linda Bartley (Terry Rattigan), Frank Jr. (Sharon) Bartley. Grandchildren Michael (Jennifer) Bartley, Robert (Allison) Bartley, Melissa Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Mallory Potter and six great-grandchildren. In addition to being a mother and grandmother, she was also a friend to her children and grandchildren, with whom all have wonderful memories and have cherished the closeness that they have shared with her over the years. She dedicated her life to her husband and children. Barbara also shared an incredible bond with her siblings. Her oldest brother and younger sister have passed on before her: Jesse Roberts Jr. and Betty-Joann Baker. Barbara is also survived by her youngest brother Michael (Dorothy) Roberts, all of Michigan. Barbara also left many wonderful memories with her in-laws Wayne Baker, Bill (Joanne) Bartley, Sally (Jack) Cooper, Marion (Doug) McPhedran, as well as 18 nieces and nephews and their children.
Barbara worked for many years in the food service industry: A&W, Dairy Queen, Sentry Cafeteria, Murphy Manor and Dow Cafeteria where she enjoyed and took pride in her work. In addition to her family and work, Barbara enjoyed camping, bowling, baking, cooking, sewing and travelling. Barbara spent her life caring for those that she loved and that brought her great fulfillment and joy. She loved having her family around at all times.
The Bartley family would like to thank Dr. Maddison and his team at St. Joseph’s Hospice for the amazing care that they provided to our mother in her final hours.  Cremation has taken place. Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, January 27, 2013, Darryl Keith Emmel passed away at the age of 75. Predeceased by his wife Mary Grace (nee Watson) and his parents Rex and Helen Emmel. Survived by his sons Robert of Toronto, and Scott (Lois) of Ardoch and ex-wife Eleanor. Dear brother of Denise (John) Bayne, brother-in-law of Michelle (Tyrone) Stovell and brother -in-law Alex Watson. Will also be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends. Darryl was a member of the Bluewater Chordsman, as well as both Lakeland Florida and Sarnia lawn bowling clubs. He enjoyed golf, fishing, computing, photography and a good laugh. The family would like to extend special thanks to friends Carl and Margaret Potter as well as those staff at both Bluewater Health and St. Joseph’s Hospice who helped to make Darryl’s final weeks as comfortable as possible with their care and concern. Peacefully passed away at his home on January 26, 2013. For 63 years, beloved husband of Mary (nee Lucan). Proud and dedicated father of Michael (Robbie)Varsava of Tecumseh, Richard (Caroline) Varsava of Aurora, Gary (Rita) Varsava of Port Elgin, Catherine (Doug) Metcalfe of Aurora, Christine (Arnie) Bresette of Camlachie. Attentive grandfather to Drew (Nelia), Kim (Colin), Kate, Christian, Emily, David, Mathew (Melissa), Sarah (Winston), Mike (Jean), Caylin, Cori, Mitch, and Brodie. Adoring great-grandfather of Ava, Alex, Kieran, Kate, Alex, and John. Will be missed by his sister Olga Seibot. Predeceased by his parents Andrew and Tereza and siblings Louie, Frances (Lucan) and John.
Emile was born in Dohnany, Slovakia, on February 5, 1927 and immigrated to Canada in 1937.The passion of Emile’s life was following his faith and his love of God. He served his church as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Emile followed his gift for sales as an insurance broker for 40 years. Ever the entrepreneur he had ownership of multiple apartment buildings. Following retirement his talent for sales continued with fundraising for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Most recently he was recognized and selected for the 2012 Mayor’s Honour List. He was a friend of many and a strong supporter of the Slovak community. His love and support will be missed in the lives of all he knew.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with prayers being offered at 8:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 1, 2013, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Bright’s Grove at 11:00 a.m. with the interment to follow in Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.

William (Bill) Petrie Brown III passed away peacefully at Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia, on Sunday, January 27, 2013.
Beloved husband of Patricia Brown. Loving father of Wm. Petrie (Bill) Brown IV and his wife Corinne Robertson-Brown, Linda Van Dun and Robin MacIntyre, and Donald and Jann Brown. Cherished grandfather of Caitlin Thompson, Garrison Brown, Brianna (Ewan) Phelan and great-grandfather of Rachel and Sarah Elizabeth Phelan. Dear step-father of Heather Bryan, David Bryan, Patrick Bryan and Shawn Bryan. Loved brother of Jim (Jean) Brown, Doreen (Gary) Jamieson, Arene (Angus) Parsons, Marlene (Doug) Haney, and Tom Brown. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents Wm. Petrie Brown II and Doreen Mildred Brown, and by his brother Bob Brown.  Bill was a loyal and faithful friend of Bill W. His home group was Tuesday nights at St. John-in-the-Wilderness. Bill suffered from dementia for many years but he never forgot his devotion to the program. Despite his illness, he continued to enjoy many years of golfing and bowling. Peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 26, 2013 Clifford Garnet Gagnon passed away at the age of 57. Loving husband of Sheila (Shelley) Gagnon. Predeceased by his parents Clifford and Eileen and his sister Gail Hardy. Dear brother of Carol Gagnon (the late Mick Smith) of London, Bruce Gagnon of Barrie, Nelson Gagnon of Sarnia, Doris (Dennis) Bourque of Sarnia, Shirley (Herb) Vanderwielen of Sarnia and Scott (Christine) of Sarnia. Clifford is survived by sister-in-law Nancy and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sarnia. Willmore, Mrs. Peggy Jane of Chatham

Pic 1Surrounded by her loving family at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Wednesday January 30th, 2013, Mrs. Peggy Jane Willmore of Chatham in her 66th year.  Cherished daughter of the late Frederick and Grace Leatherdale.  Beloved wife and best friend of Ken.  Loving mother of Kent and his wife Candice, Nicole Willmore-Huff and her husband Ken, and Meri Kim Moco and her husband Jeff, all of Chatham.  She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Lyndsey, Hunter, Tim, Zack, Lakyn, Curtis, Cruz and Cici.  Predeceased by her infant brother Frederick.  Peggy will be remembered for her commitment to her family and their successes.  She was involved in the family farm her entire life, a maple syrup business in the 90’s and most recently loved to be around the children while working at PURE Dance Academy.  Peggy also worked as a hairstylist and a jewellery sales associate in her younger years.  Peggy’s strong faith in the Lord made her passing a gift that everyone of the family is grateful for.  Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710, on Monday February 4th visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Willmore will be conducted from the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday February 5th at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gordon Reynolds of Gregory Drive Alliance Church officiating.  Interment Maple Leaf Cemetery. Lockson-WebLOCKSON, JOYCE (nee PARENT) – Passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 66, after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. She leaves behind husband, Timothy, daughter, Nicole, and son, Richard. Predeceased by mother, father, and sister, Merna, René, and Sheila Parent. She will be missed dearly by her family and many close friends. Visitation to be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Rd, N., London, Friday, February 8th, from 7 to 9 pm, memorial service to follow at the same location, Saturday, February 9th, at 11 am. Our family would like to give special thanks to everyone who provided such incredible help, love, and support over the last 4 months, and to the entire staff of Victoria Hospital, who bestowed the finest of care to our entire family. Hokansson-web HOKANSSON, Michael – Peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his loving family on January 30th, 2013, Michael Hokansson of London in his 45th year.  Beloved husband of Sherry and loving father to Connor.  Cherished son of Audrey and the late Eric (2009) Hokansson.  Much loved brother to Andrea MacDonald and her husband Glen, and uncle to Dayna and Eric MacDonald. Dear son-in-law of Cindy and Lloyd Dinner.  The family would like to thank Dr. Ernst and the staff of the London Regional Cancer Centre, ParaMed nurse, Dina and nurse practitioner, Grace for their wonderful care and compassion.  Visitation will be held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North on Monday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. as well as one hour prior to the funeral service being conducted in the chapel on Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.   In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Michael are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society or the London Regional Cancer Program.

REID, Edward (Ted) Charles

Ted-Reid-webREID, Edward Charles – At University Hospital, London on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, First Class Firefighter Edward C. (Ted) Reid, age 83 of Sarnia passed away. He was the beloved friend of Pam. and dear father of James (Jim) Reid, Katherine (Kathy) Chyc and Karen Reid, grandfather of Naomi, Rachel, Loren, Jessica, Jordan and Holly, great-grandfather of Matao. He was predeceased by his brothers, identical twin Jack and Bill, sisters Jean Welter and Joan Smith. Ted was a retired Sarnia Firefighter for over 30 years, was a member of the Sarnia Lions Club for 30 years and sang with the Silver Tones for 20 years. He was a 25 year member of the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Saturday, February 2nd at 1:00 pm. Cremation will take place and interment at a later date will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Rollings, LenaPeacefully, at Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, formerly of RR 2 Lucan in her 79th year.  Beloved wife of the late Orville Rollings (2011).  Dear mother and mother-in-law of Richard and Anne Rollings of Clandeboye and Robert Richardson of Listowel.  Dear grandmother of Nathan Rollings of Clandeboye, Gwen and Tyler Feagan of Lucan, William “Jake” and Bev Richardson of Palmerston, Debbie and John Motherwell of Mount Forest and great-grandmother of Megan, Lincoln, Dallas; Bill, Shelby, Kiawna, Austin and Drew. Dear sister-in-law of Viola Darling of London, Cliff and Dorothy Rollings of RR 2 Lucan and Madeline Desjardine of Crediton.  Predeceased by her daughter Margo Richardson (2006) and her grandson Wesley Rollings (1997).  Special thanks to home care workers Jamie MacLeod and Della Hedley for their dedication and support.

MATTE, JeanIt is with great sorrow that the family announces his passing in Sudbury on Monday, January 28th, 2013 at the age of 76 years. Son of the late Valmont and of the late Agnès Matte (née Landry). Husband of the late Thérèse Matte (née Paquet). Loving father of André Matte (Sandi Morin) of Hanmer. Dear brother of Arthur, Gisèle, Thérèse, Evelyne and Noëlla. Predeceased by his brothers and sister; Raymond, Esther, Alphonse, George and Albert. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. VERNOSKY, Clifford (JEANVEAU, Eugene)The family announces with sorrow his passing in Sudbury on Monday, January 28th, 2013 at the age of 69 years.  Beloved husband of Monique Pilon of Coniston.  Son of the late Adelard and the late Lucille (née Lafontaine) Jeanveau.  Loving father of Louise Head (Dwayne) of Naughton, Richard Jeanveau and Clifford Jr. Vernosky (Milissa) both of Sudbury.  Predeceased by his son Normand Jeanveau.  Dear brother of Edmond (Jacqueline) of Sudbury, Richard (Debbie) of Espanola and Linda Jodouin (late Jean-Guy) of Coniston.  Predeceased by her brothers and sisters Claudette Trudel, Simone Roy (Lindsay of Sudbury), Georges Vernosky and Patrick (Yvonne of Wahnapitae).  Sadly missed by his grandchildren Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Kendall, Steven, Dana, Daniel and Venessa.  Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Clifford was a member of the Labourers’ International Union (Local 493).  The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury on Thursday from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m. and Friday after 1 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 1st, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the Funeral Home, Sudbury.  Donations (by cheques only) to the Northern Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.

Peacefully, on January 29, 2013 at 85 years of age. Beloved husband of 64 years to Freda (nee Mann). Dear son of the late Clifford and Eileen Langlois. Loving brother of William “Bill” and the late Margaret Bernice “Bea” Langlois. Cherished uncle of Dorothy, Mary, Barbara, Margaret, Harold, Marie and Charlene. Treasured great-uncle of 14 and great-great uncle of eight. After 34 years of service, Harold was retired from Air Canada as an Airline Captain.
