WESTLAKE, David Blair

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Blair Westlake after a brief illness, on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the age of 58, David passed away peacefully at home with his wife and best friend Jayme by his side. He was the proud and loving father to Emily (Shane), Noah, Grant, Carleen (Mike), Stuart (Michelle). David was an amazing “Krampus” to granddaughters, Kenzi-Lu and Hayley. He was a dedicated son to Margaret (predeceased 2012) and Arnold and his wife Marie. David will be missed by his brother and friend Bruce, fondly referred to as “Bubba” and siblings John (Sheree) Locke, Beth (Dan) Quinn, David (Sue) Locke, Peter Locke and their families. David will be sadly missed by the extended Westlake and Remington families. David was adored by his Mother-in-Law, Betty Swanwick, Sister-in-Law Tracy (Mike) Piggott, Brother-in-Law, Adam Swanwick and their families.

As a teenager, his love of the arts began at the Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay. David was a student of Philosophy at the University of Toronto and continued his studies at the National Theatre School in Montreal. Over the years David was employed at various theatres across Canada. For the past 20 years and at the time of his passing, David was employed at the Shaw Festival Theatre as a Scenic Constructor. He was a member of IATSE Local 461 Union.

David had a passion for music and as an avid musician loved to play the guitar and sing and was a member of the St. Marks Anglican Church Choir. He experienced life with a gentleness and sly humour and always had a friendly smile and curiosity about what was going on in the world.

A special thanks to the oncology nurses in 3B at St. Catharines General Hospital and to Paramed & VON palliative nurses who watched over David when he came home.

As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at St.

Mark’s Anglican Church, 41 Byron Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Monday March 26th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
